OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested last Monday afternoon an employee of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) for estafa and corrupt practices inside the PNP headquarters at Camp Crame.

The CIDG named the suspect only as Noel, assigned to the Installation Logistics Service at the Napolcom Central Office in Quezon City.

CIDG operatives, in coordination with the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group, arrested the suspect in an entrapment operation at the parking area of the PNP Mortuary in Camp Crame.

The operation stemmed from the complaint of a former police major identified as Jeff who reported that the suspect asked P20,000 from him in exchange for a favorable decision on his case, appealing his dismissal, filed with Napolcom.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torres III said the suspect misrepresented himself as a former police officer now working with the Napolocom, with the intent to defraud Jeff.

The CIDG said the suspect also claimed to have connections with “influential personalities” to support his claim that he could help in reaching a favorable decision from the NAPOLCOM.

The suspect will be charged with violations of Article 315 (estafa) of the Revised Penal Code for obtaining money through deceit, Republic Act 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees) for abusing his position for personal gain, and Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) for engaging in corrupt practices detrimental to public interest.

“The arrest of Noel is a warning to all violators performing corrupt practices inside the government offices, that the CIDG is watching you and will catch you anytime soon,” said Torre.

Torre urged people who may have been victimized by the suspect to come forward and pursue charges. “Rest assured that the CIDG is steadfast and relentless in catching all fugitives, criminals and violators of the laws. Don’t hesitate to report all crimes and abuses and your CIDG will do the rest,” said Torre.
