Muntinlupa, BuCor address closure of access road for students

THE city government of Muntinlupa and the Bureau of Corrections yesterday addressed the sudden closure of an access road in South Greenheights Village that disrupted travel for students of the Muntinlupa National High School (MNHS) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun).

Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon said that after his office received information of the closure of the access road by the South Greenheights Village Association, he immediately visited BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang to come up with a solution to the problem.

He said Catapang agreed that vehicles be allowed to ferry students to and from the said schools, while a lasting solution to the issue is being looked at by the city government and the village association.

“Nagpapasalamat ako kay DG Catapang na bukas siya sa panukala at pumayag siya in principle. Pag-uusapan na lang ang detalye sa pagitan ng Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau at ng Operations Director ng BuCoR (I am grateful to DG Catapang that he is open to the idea and agreeing in principle. The details will be worked out by the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau and the Operations Director of BuCor),” Biazon said on his social media account.

The BuCor’s assent to the program is needed since vehicles transporting students will pass through its property at the New Bilibid Prison complex.

Biazon said he understood the decision of the village homeowners association to close the access gate in their subdivision due to concerns over cleanliness, safety and order in their subdivision, but he said it also poses problems to students and teachers going to and from MNHS and PLMun.

“The city government is coordinating with BuCor and South Greenheights to find a solution to this issue,” he added.

In the meantime, Biazon said the city government has deployed service vehicles to provide free transport to affected students and teachers.
