MAYORAL candidate Isko Moreno yesterday vowed to ensure a clean and stable Manila if he regains his old post.

Moreno is running against his erstwhile ally, incumbent Mayor Honey Lacuna Pangan.

He made the promise in his talk to Filipino and Chinese business owners from the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

“Let me assure you for purposes of certainty so that you can plan ahead of time with regard to your business in the City of Manila that it will stay in the next five years in Manila,” Moreno, whose real name is Francisco Domagoso, said.

He recalled that during his first stint as Manila mayor from 2019 to 2022, he maintained the tax rates in the city while implementing a tax amnesty program for delinquent taxpayers.

Moreno also explained that a consistent tax policy would encourage a more stable business environment while at the same time encouraging local and foreign businesses to invest in the city.

He also pledged to bring back his cleanliness program if he wins the mayoralty race in the May 12 polls.

“I guarantee you, we will do it again to keep our city clean and the garbage will be properly collected in time without additional fees,” the former mayor said.

Lacuna earlier said Moreno left the city indebted to the tune of over P17 billion during his term and that it would take the city government up to 20 years to pay the debt.

She said her administration has earmarked P2.3 billion this year to pay part of the debt Moreno left.
