MMDA SUSPENDS VEHICLE NUMBER-CODING DUE TO HEAVY RAINS

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended on Monday afternoon the implementation of the Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), or the number coding scheme, “due to the heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon.”

The MMDA made the announcement in its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited from using the roads every Monday, 3 and 4 every Tuesday, 5 and 6 every Wednesday, 7 and 8 every Thursday, 9 and 0 every Friday during coding hours.

The scheme is automatically lifted during Saturdays and Sundays.

The MMDA said several areas in the metropolis have been monitored and found to have gutter-deep floods, though they remain passable for all types of vehicles.

In Manila, gutter-deep floods were found along España – Lacson Streets; Mabini – Pedro Gil Streets; Mabini going to UN Avenue; Recto – Abad Santos Streets; Taft corner Gen. Malvar Street; Leon Guinto – Remedios to Leon Guinto – Pedro Gil Streets; España – De La Fuente Streets; and Taft – Padre Faura Street; while floodings were also reported for Kalaw – Taft; Gen. Luna to Taft; Tayuman – Abad Santos Streets; and Taft PGH.

Data provided by the MMDA Flood Control Information Center at 12:06 pm showed the EDSA Shaw Boulevard underpass in Mandaluyong City was also affected by gutter-deep flood, although it was still passable for all types of vehicles.

In Makati City, floodings were reported along Magallanes, Pasong Tamo, and the northbound lane of EDSA -Chino Roces. 

Half-gutter deep flood was also monitored at the soutbound lane of EDSA before Ayala Avenue.
The MMDA said all these areas remained passable for all types of vehicles.

Above gutter and gutter-deep floodwaters were also reported along Andrews Avenue and Tramo Street, as well as the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard – EDSA Heritage Service Road in Parañaque City.

There were also floodings reported at the MIA – Coastal intersection, also in Parañaque City.

In Quezon City, gutter-deep floods were monitored on the north and southbound lanes of EDSA – P. Tuazon tunnel; north and southbound lanes of EDSA – Balintawak; and the northbound lane of EDSA – Dario Bridge.

The MMDA said that as of 11:04 a.m., the north and southbound lanes at Araneta Victory Avenue and E. Rodriguez -Araneta Avenues were also flooded.

The Pasig River Ferry Service likewise announced it suspended its operations on Monday due to inclement weather.
