THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) intends to complete the rehabilitation of the Pasay to Shaw Boulevard segment of the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) within the year, in time for the country’s hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit next year.

Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, in a briefing in Malacanang, said the rehabilitation will be done by sections to minimize the impact on traffic.

Bonoan said the top priority would be the Pasay to Shaw Boulevard stretch, with the rest to follow.

“Ang priority sections that we will be undertaking will be from Pasay to Shaw Boulevard, southbound and northbound. And ang timetable po namin dito is we hope that we can complete that segments, iyong segments na iyan, towards the end of the year (The priority sections that we will be undertaking will be from Pasay to Shaw Boulevard, southbound and northbound. And our timetable is we hope that we can complete that segment… towards the end of the year),” he said.

Around 464,000 vehicles pass through EDSA daily, according to 2024 data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The MMDA and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) are finalizing a comprehensive traffic scheme, including alternative routes, during the rehabilitation phase. Among the alternative routes is the Skyway Stage 3.
