PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) personnel rescued a Filipino fisherman in the vicinity of the contested Scarborough Shoal last Monday, three days after he was reported missing.

The fisherman, Roberto Albior, 53, of Barangay Calapandayan, Subic town in Zambales, was separated from his 12 companions onboard the fishing boat FFB Saider last Friday while sailing southwest of the shoal, the PCG said.

The PCG attributed the incident to “strong winds and large waves” due to tropical depression Isang.

The PCG said it promptly deployed one of its vessels, BRP Cape San Agustin, to conduct a search and rescue operation.

During the mission, the PCG said BRP Cape San Agustin received information, through radio, from fishing boat FFB Chief Iver that it had found the missing fisherman.

“Immediately after receiving the report, BRP Cape San Agustin proceeded to the area where the missing fisherman was found,” the PCG said.

PCG said crew members of BRP Cape San Agustin “provided medical assistance and food to Mr. Roberto Albior while transporting him back to Subic, Zambales.”

The PCG extended its gratitude to Jessie Aquilles, of FFB Iver, “for his assistance in reporting the missing fisherman.”
