Mindanao-born justices named to CA

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Edilwasif Tapsiril Baddiri and Jeoffre Willkom Acebido of Mindanao as Associate Justices of the Court of Appeals (CA).

Baddiri and Acebido replaced retired Associate Justices Edwin Sorongon and Victoria Isabel Paredes.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo administered the oaths of office to Baddiri last April 11 and Acebido last April 14.

Baddiri, who hails from Indanan in Sulu, previously served as the presiding judge and executive judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Pasay City, and as Commissioner of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

He earned his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University Law School and his Master’s in Public Administration degree from Harvard University.

Acebido was serving as presiding judge of an RTC Branch in Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental before his appointment in the CA.

He previously worked as a prosecutor, public attorney, and senior legal officer at the Commission on Human Rights.
