A MILITARY lawyer with the rank of colonel was found dead at his quarters inside the AFP general headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City last Friday, the Armed Forces said yesterday.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said the military, in coordination with the PNP, is conducting a thorough probe on the death of Col. Rolando Escalona Jr., of the AFP Judge Advocate General’s Service.
Padilla said the body of Escalona was found in the wee hours of Friday with a gunshot wound, without saying which part of the body he was hit.
“The AFP, in coordination with the Philippine National Police and Scene of the Crime Operatives, is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Padilla.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Col. Escalona during this difficult time. The AFP is committed to ensuring a complete and impartial investigation to shed light on this matter,” added Padilla.
Padilla could not immediately give other details, saying everything is still under investigation.
“He had a gunshot wound based on the report that I saw,” said Padilla.
