OPERATIVES of the Pasay City police arrested Tony Yang, the brother of Rodrigo Duterte’s former presidential economic adviser, Michael Yang, for falsification of public documents and other charges.

The Pasay police, led by Col. Joselito de Sesto, arrested Yang or Yang Xian Xin on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Cagayan de Oro City Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 2 presiding Judge Eleuteria Apdian Badoles-Algodon for falsification of public document and perjury and for the use of an alias.

In a statement issued late Wednesday night, the Pasay police said the warrant, dated November 22, 2024, set the bail for Yang’s temporary liberty at P36,000 for the falsification of public document case, P18,000 for perjury, and P30,000 for violation of Republic Act 6085 or the Act to Regulate the Use of Aliases.

Yang is detained at the Pasay police station detention cell.

The warrant stemmed from complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation after the agency said it found out that Yang used several aliases to establish and register corporations with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Cagayan de Oro City.

Yang was arrested by the authorities last year after he misrepresented himself as a Filipino.

He was investigated by lawmakers for alleged links to the operation of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO).

Yang’s name also came out in the open last month after Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado hinted of the smear campaign against him, including allegations contained in a letter send by purported immigration employees to Malacanang that he mishandled the operations against those involved in POGO could be due to his opposition to allow the release of the detained businessman.
