THE Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) donated last Wednesday essential items to 465 individuals displaced by a recent fire in Barangay BF Homes, Sucat, Paranaque City.

MIAA, through its Lingap Kapwa outreach initiative, donated 500 repacked eco-bags containing assorted items such as used clothes, bags, shoes, slippers, and clothing for children and adults.

The donated items were carefully sorted and categorized for boys, girls, and adults to ensure organized distribution.

These items were sourced from the airport’s lost and found inventory, which, as per MIAA’s revised guidelines and Memorandum Circular No. 05, Series of 2021, said: “After the lapse of the six (6) months retention period, the unclaimed items shall be donated to charitable institutions and/or MIAA-sponsored outreach programs.”

The turnover ceremony was held at the Aratelis II covered court, Masville, and was attended by members of the MIAA Lingap Kapwa Task Force, along with barangay officials and the homeowners association.

The donation drive is part of MIAA’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which include disaster response, recovery and rehabilitation efforts, and medical and social services programs. MIAA’s mission is to transform unclaimed belongings into meaningful contributions for communities affected by calamities, ensuring that no resource goes to waste in bringing aid to those who need it most.

“Through the Lingap Kapwa Task Force, we are dedicated to extending relief and assistance to help the affected families rebuild their lives with hope and dignity,” said MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines.

“Let us continue to support and uplift each other, remembering that in moments of darkness, we are the ones who will help one another,” Ines added.
