MALACANANG yesterday dismissed as “fake” an alleged memorandum circulating on social media about a supposed order to improve the survey ratings of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and a leadership change in the House of Representatives.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in a statement, said it is a spurious document meant to spread disinformation, while the Presidential Communications Office said it is “fake news.”
“The Office of the Executive Secretary categorically denies the authenticity of said memorandum. Apparently, the spurious memorandum is a blatant attempt to spread disinformation and to sow division in the ranks of the administration candidates. It should be dismissed as the handiwork of malicious minds,” Bersamin said.
He said the alleged memorandum was made to appear like he signed it and detailed a discussion of a survey presentation and hinted at a change in the leadership of the House of Representatives.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the public should not waste their time on the alleged document, adding that “it is fake news.”
Castro reminded the public to be more discerning as fake news is a current “trend.”
“Let’s not just believe in fake documents, in documents that are being spread around,” she added.
The alleged document supposedly pertained to a report of the executive secretary to the President about the drop in his and the administration’s senatorial candidates in the surveys since the arrest and turnover of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court for his crimes against humanity.
The document allegedly includes proposals to intensify the campaign in the Visayas, avoid responding to negative issues, and the need for a change in leadership in the House due to alleged rampant corruption.
