Marikina LGU bans parking on main roads

THE Marikina government announced yesterday the formation of the Marikina action team that will enforce the ban on parking on main roads.

The team will also focus on jaywalking, no smoking in public places, and prohibition of loud videoke past 10 p.m.

Mayor Maan Teodoro said during the flag-raising ceremony that this new team is part of the disciplinary program of the city.

“We can enforce discipline without using force. The violators will be given a warning for the first offense,” Teodoro said.

She said that they received reports of street parking causing traffic on several roads in the city. Among the roads to be monitored are Bonifacio Avenue, Sumulong Highway, Shoe Ave., Gil Fernando, JP Rizal, Bayan Bayanan, PG Molina, Katipunan, and General Ordonez.

The Marikina local government unit (LGU) will remove obstructions along the said roads to help ease traffic in the city.

The mayor also said that they will be enforcing a curfew for minors in the city from 9 p.m. to 4 a m.

“Unless they have a school activity, are in an emergency or accompanied by their parents, they should be home by 9 p.m.,” Teodoro said.
