THE Management Association of the Philippines yesterday supported the approval of the Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1) fare adjustment in compliance with the contract between the government and the rail operator.

“MAP stands for the sanctity of contract and the rule of law. The agreed terms of the contract on the fare adjustment must be complied with by the government in order to protect the level of service required of the operator and prevent deterioration of service to the commuters.” MAP said in a statement.

Under the new fares that took effect yesterday, single journey tickets range from P20 to P55 per passenger from the Dr. Santos station in Sucat to the Fernando Poe Jr. station, formerly Roosevelt station, and P16 to P52 per passenger for stored value tickets.

Before the adjustment, LRT-1 fares ranged from P15 to P45 for single journey tickets and P15 to P43 for the store value ticket for end-to-end stations.

The Department of Transportation said the fare adjustment is long overdue and is necessary to ensure the operational viability of the rail line and sustain its necessary upgrades for the benefit of the commuting public.

The fare increase, which was approved last January 30, is only the second rate increase since 2023. This was lower than the proposed P20 fare originally submitted by the LRMC.
