MANDALUYONG Mayor Menchie Abalos has reminded her constituents to exercise discipline in disposing of garbage in designated places, especially during the rainy season.
Simply disposing of trash properly can help prevent flooding, Abalos said.
Although Mandaluyong is not the worst city affected by floods, there are several barangays where floodwaters are knee to waist deep.
“We have people assigned to clean roads and even canals, but even they have limits. We need everyone to do their part and not be irresponsible,” she said.
The mayor said that those caught littering may not be punished severely and would only do a few hours or days of community service but “they (violators ) may be tasked to clean canals and drainage systems.
