Mandaluyong marks cityhood, 80th anniversary of Liberation

MANDALUYONG Mayor Ben Abalos Sr., Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos and city councilors lead the weeklong celebration of the city’s 80th Liberation Day and 31st Cityhood Anniversary.

Last Saturday, a fun run was held at the City Hall grounds while a mass was held at the Aglipay Church yesterday, followed by a parade at Barangays Poblacion, Hagdan Bato Itaas, Daang Bakal, Pag-Asa, Burol, and Harapin.

Today, Monday, the Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales Integrated School (SPNAGIS) in Barangay Mauway will be inaugurated.

Tomorrow, a commencement exercise will be conducted for Mandaleños under the 4Ps program led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the Mandaluyong City College Gymnasium.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the building of Bahay Pag-Asa at Barangay Mauway happens on February 5.

A job fair for local and overseas workers organized by the Mandaluyong government will be held starting at 8 a.m. on February 6 at the Atrium Executive Building.

On February 7, a Lifestyle Check Clinic will be held by the City Health Department from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

On February 8, there will be a bicycle competition in partnership with the Mandaluyong All Bikers.

On February 9, during the celebration of the liberation of Mandaluyong and the 31st anniversary of its cityhood, officials will offer flowers at the Liwasang Katubusan on Gen. Kalentong St., Barangay Pag-Asa.

“The weeklong celebration is an acknowledgment of the history, perseverance, and progress of Mandaluyong from the time it was liberated from Japanese forces during World War II until it became a chartered city in 1994,” Abalos said.
