Majority of Filipinos still satisfied with Congress, SC performance

MAJORITY of Filipinos are still satisfied with the performance of the Senate, House of Representatives, and Supreme Court in the last quarter of 2024 despite a three to six-point drop in their satisfaction ratings and two to six-point-drop in their net satisfaction scores, the December 12 to 18 survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

The fourth quarter survey, which involved 2,160 adult respondents with a margin of error of ±2 percent, showed that 62 percent are satisfied with the Senate, down from 66 percent in September; while 17 percent (from 15 percent) are undecided and 18 percent (from 17 percent) are dissatisfied.

This resulted in a net satisfaction rating of a “good” +44 (percent of satisfied minus percent of dissatisfied), down by five points from a “good” +49 in September.

SWS defines net satisfaction ratings of +70 and above as “excellent”; +50 to +69 as “very good”; +30 to +49 as “good”; +10 to +29 as “moderate”, +9 to -9 as “neutral”; -10 to -29 as “poor”; -30 to -49 as “bad”; -50 to -69 as “very bad”; -70 and below as “execrable.”

Majority of the respondents from the Visayas were satisfied with the performance of the Senate in the last three months of 2024 at +50 (from +51), followed by the rest of Luzon at +44 (down from +49), Mindanao at +44 (from 45) and the National Capital Region (NCR) at +34 (down from +49).

SWS said more women were satisfied with the work of the Senate at +45 (down from +49) than men at +43 (down from +49).

It also found the Senate scoring higher net satisfaction scores among the 55 years old and above group at +48, followed by the 45 to 54 years old at +45, the 25 to 34 years old at +42, the 35 to 44 years old at +41, and 18 to 24 years old at +37.

Majority of elementary graduates also expressed satisfaction with the Senate at +55, followed by the non-elementary graduates and senior high school graduates at +47 each, junior high school graduates at +42 and college graduates at +24.

HOUSE OF REPS

SWS said 54 percent (down from 60 percent) of the respondents were satisfied with the House of Representatives, 22 percent (from 19 percent) undecided, and 18 percent (unchanged) dissatisfied, which resulted in a net satisfaction score of a “good” +36 (down from a “good” +42).

The House scored its highest satisfaction rating among those from Luzon at +42, followed by the Visayas at +40, and Mindanao and NCR at +27 each; and among women at +38, followed by men at +34.

The survey also showed the House scoring higher net satisfaction scores among younger people or ages 18 to 24 years old at +41, followed by 35 to 44 years old at +39, 45 to 54 years old at +38, 25 to 34 years old at +34 and 55 years old and above at +33.

It also scored its highest net satisfaction score among elementary graduates at +40, followed by senior high school graduates and junior high school graduates at +39, non-elementary graduates at +37 and college graduates at +14.

HIGH COURT

SWS said 58 percent were satisfied with the Supreme Court (down from 61 percent) while 20 percent were undecided (from 18 percent) and 18 percent dissatisfied (from 19 percent), which resulted in a net satisfaction rating of a “good” +40 (from a “good +42).

The High Court scored its highest satisfaction rating among those from the Visayas at +42, followed by Mindanao at +41, Luzon at +41, and NCR at +37.

It also received a net satisfaction score of +41 among women and +40 among men.

Like the House, the Supreme Court also scored its highest net satisfaction scores among the 18 to 24 years old group at +49, followed by 55 years old and above at +41, and among the 25 to 34 years old, 35 to 44 years old, and 45 to 54 years old group at +38 each.

It also garnered its highest net satisfaction rating among elementary graduates at +47, followed by non-elementary graduates at +41, junior high school graduates at +40, senior high school graduates at +37 and college graduates at +30.
