IF senatorial candidates from powerful political families win come May elections, political dynasties would have control of all levels of government from local to national.
Partido Lakas ng Masa senatorial bet Luke Espiritu said the 2025 mid-term elections is the last chance for Filipinos to pry off control of the Senate from the hands of a few influential families.
“In the Senate now, they want to have three Tulfos, two Villars, two Cayetanos, and two Ejercito-Estradas. If you look closer, these are the same families who have also placed relatives in local government positions. The 2025 elections will mark a new period in the role of political dynasties. They will dominate all local and national posts,” the labor leader said.
Espiritu, who is running on a pro-worker platform, said if voters are eager for change, the coming election is the perfect opportunity to tear down political dynasties by voting candidates from the marginalized sectors.
He pointed out that this early the electorate is already being conditioned to the idea that the 2028 presidential contest will be limited to candidates from two powerful political families.
“The choice of who will be the next occupant of Malacañang is now being painted between now and 2028 like it is a one-on-one fight between two families. They are busy conditioning our brains that the contest is only between the Dynasty of the North and the Dynasty of the South,” Espiritu pointed out.
By doing so, political dynasties are trying to nullify those who are fighting the dominance of a few political families in government.
“The image that they want to imprint on our minds is that they are the only valid options. What do they take us for? Don’t we exist at all as far as they are concerned? But from what I know, there are many of us who equally despite the Dutertes and the Marcoses,” the PLM senatorial candidate said.
He called on the young voters to flex their numbers by denying a dual dynasty in Philippine politics.
“Look at their histories. The political dynasties unerringly produce the worst public officials: the most corrupt, the worst violators of our laws, and the incompetents. Voters have a lot of much better choices. Pick the ones who have no record of corruption, those who offer workable solutions to poverty. Most of these come from the mass movements,” he added.
