WORKERS’ rights advocate Luke Espiritu and former United Nations auditor Heidi Mendoza yesterday expressed gratitude to actress-television host Anne Curtis after she announced on social media that they are among of only four senators she is supporting in the coming May 12 elections.

The celebrity endorser said the other two are former senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino.

The four senatorial aspirants are considered part of the alternative opposition, which includes progressive candidates from left-leaning Makabayan bloc and Partido Lakas ng Masa.

All are campaigning on a platform of transparency, clean governance, and against political dynasties.

Curtis says she has only listed four names for senators and needs to evaluate the platforms and track records of other bets that she might include later.

However, she declared that her pick for the party-list race is Akbayan because she supports human rights lawyer Chel Diokno who is its number one nominee.

“Maraming salamat, Anne, sa pagsandig sa bagong politika. Saludo ako sa mga katulad mong may malawak na impluwensya sa entertainment industry na walang takot na naninindigan para sa manggagawang Pilipino kontra dinastiya. Sabay-sabay nating ipaglaban ang politika na pabor sa nakararami at hindi lang sa iilan (Thank you so much, Anne, for trusting in reform politics. I salute you for using your great influence in the entertainment industry to support Filipino workers against political dynasties. We are proud to stand with you in seeking for politics that promote the interest of the majority over those of the few),” Espiritu said on his official Facebook page.

Curtis’ endorsement had so far collected 336,000 reactions and had 63,000 shares on Facebook alone.

“Maraming salamat Dyosa! Lingkod-bayan hindi politico. Tax mo, Ms Anne Curtis, babantayan ko (Thank you, Dyosa. Public servant, not a politician. Your taxes, Ms. Anne Curtis, would be under close watch),” Mendoza said on her post on the same social media platform.

Also yesterday, Espiritu and Mendoza figured prominently in the results of mock polls of the Adamson University and the Visayas State University students.

Espiritu took third spot in both tallies while Mendoza landed at fourth place.  First and second places went to Aquino and Pangilinan, respectively.

In the Batangas State University mock polls, Mendoza switched places with Espiritu as Aquino again took the top spot followed by Pangilinan.

The four Senate aspirants have led majority of the pre-election surveys and mock elections held by different universities and colleges all over the country sine last year.
