Lithuania looking to hire OFWs

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said there is a growing demand for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Lithuania, which has an annual labor quota of 25,000 workers.

In a statement, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac disclosed that Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Dovile Šakalienė has expressed their desire to hire Filipino workers.

“Lithuanian authorities are reportedly finalizing procedures to accommodate more Filipino workers,” said Cacdac.

He said there is an increasing demand for Filipino workers in various sectors in Lithuania, such as healthcare, maritime, transportation, construction, and food services.

Given the growing demand, Cacdac said they will be looking to deepen the bilateral labor cooperation between the two nations with an aim to ensure stronger protection of the rights and welfare, and better opportunities for OFWs.

“We are proud to serve, protect, and uplift our modern-day heroes. Wherever Filipinos are in the world, we will reach out and ensure that their welfare is protected,” said Cacdac.

The DMW said there are plans for high-level visits and continued dialogue in the coming months between the Philippines and Lithuania.
