DESPITE challenges he faced in the past year, President Marcos Jr. said he has no regrets in running for public office.

He said it is an honor and a privilege for him to serve his fellow Filipinos.

“The reason that I never regret being in this position is that I have been in political life for most of my adult life. And I can say with great confidence that being President, being of this service at this level, is the greatest honor and privilege that any human being can ever be granted by his own people,” Marcos said at a luncheon meeting with local executives from the Visayas led by the “One Cebu” officials, at the Cebu Provincial Capitol in Cebu Cit.

He said that when he sees how successful a program or project is, and how it benefits the people, he feels lucky that he has been instrumental in providing that service and helping improve the lives of his fellow Filipinos.

The President said he still feels strongly about unity and the need for a strong collaboration among government officials to attain the development agenda of his administration.

“We must not waste precious time to deliver the reforms that people need. Let’s not be distracted by issues that would only deter our work and affect the people who are counting on us. Our effectivity as elected public officials is defined by how we remain true to our mandate to serve, to lead, and empower our fellow Filipinos,” he said.

“Let us remember that the true essence of our democracy unfolds not just in the casting of the ballot, but in the everyday actions and decisions that we make as lawmakers and policy implementers in the service of the public,” he added.

The President said disagreements and contradicting views are inevitable, but public servants must always bear in mind their commitment to serve the greater good.

“We cannot stress this enough but let us always, let us always serve with integrity, with responsibility, and passion in our hearts. I know that if we are guided by the highest ideals of good governance, we can never go astray,” he added.

Marcos, during the event, thanked the Visayan local government officials for their support, especially in pushing for the realization of the “ambitious” programs and projects of the administration.
