THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported that Leptospirosis Fast Lanes are now open in 49 public hospitals across the country to enhance the response to the flood-borne disease.
In a social media post, the DOH said that 49 hospitals under its watch have established their respective Leptospirosis Fast Lanes.
“We are expanding our rapid and effective response to leptospirosis,” said the DOH.
The Department said the presence of the Leptospirosis Fast Lanes aims to ensure that suspected cases will get immediate medical attention.
“In these Fast Lanes, the patient’s risk level and their required medical intervention are quickly determined,” said the DOH.
The government hospitals with Leptospirosis Fast Lanes are the San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital, East Avenue Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium, Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, Philippine Orthopedic Center, San Lazaro Hospital, Valenzuela Medical Center, Tondo Medical Center, Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center, Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center, and Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
Also in the list are National Children’s Hospital, National Center for Mental Health, Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, Region 1 Medical Center, Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital, Bataan General Hospital, Mariveles Mental Hospital, and Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center.
Fast lanes for leptospirosis cases are also up in Talavera General Hospital, Batangas Medical Center, Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center, Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, Ilocos Sur Medical Center, Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital, Batanes General Hospital, Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Southern Isabela Medical Center, Region 2 Trauma Medical Center, Southern Tagalog Medical Center, and Bicol Medical Center.
Completing the list are Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center, Bicol Regional General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center, Don Jose S. Monfort Medical Center Extension Hospital, Western Visayas Medical Center, Western Visayas Sanitarium, Cebu South Medical Center, Mayor Hilarion A. Romero Sr. Regional Teaching and Training Hospital, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, Amai Pakpak Medical Center, Davao Regional Medical Center, Governor Benjamin T. Romualdez General Hospital and Schistosomiasis Center, and Davao Occidental General Hospital.
The health department is urging those who waded in flood waters to seek medical consultation if they develop symptoms of leptospirosis.
“Seek immediate medical attention if you waded in floodwaters or mud to avoid the risk of leptospirosis,” said the DOH.
Leptospirosis is a disease caused by bacteria that is spread through the urine of infected animals that gets mixed in flood waters.
