OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation apprehended a law graduate for allegedly selling unauthorized copies of Bar exam review materials in an entrapment operation in Tacloban City.

Boanerges Ty Hidalgo was caught distributing video lectures and files owned by Jurists Bar Review Center via the Facebook group “Philippine Law Student Help Group” in exchange for payment, without the center’s consent or authority.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the review center asked for its help to put an end to the illegal reproduction and distribution of their copyrighted video lectures and study materials.

The NBI Cyber Crime Division (CCD) conducted a test-buy operation, and when Hidalgo agreed to provide copies of the video lectures and review materials and have them saved in an external drive, an entrapment operation was readied.

Hidalgo agreed to meet with the poseur-client in Tacloban City.

Last July 31, the NBI-CCD operatives, with the assistance of the NBI-Eastern Visayas regional office, conducted an entrapment which resulted in Hidalgo’s arrest.

Santiago said charges for violation of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act, RA 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, and RA 8792 or the Electronic Commerce Act of 2000 have been filed against Hidalgo.
