OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested in Malate, Manila, an overstaying Korean wanted for fraud and estafa in his country.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said Kim Yooshik, who also goes by the name Kim Yoosik, was arrested last Tuesday by operatives of the NBI Organized and Transnational Crimes Division (OTCD) and the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).
“He is an undesirable and overstaying alien and poses a risk to public safety and security for being a fugitive from justice, as per official communication from Consul Yun Wonchang of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea,” Santiago said.
He added that Kim was also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice due to a standing warrant of arrest for fraud in South Korea after he defrauded an individual with over 10 million Korean won by enticing him to invest in a non-existent business.
Santiago said further verification with the BI database showed that Kim has active derogatory records under a blacklist order dated June 22, 2023, and watchlist order issued on April 5, 2023, both for undesirability and for being a fugitive from justice.
“Upon verification of criminal records in the NBI’s database, it was also found that Kim Yooshik has an outstanding warrant of arrest for estafa,” the NBI chief added.
Santiago said Kim was also previously charged with falsification of public documents, malicious mischief, grave threat, and property damage, as well as human trafficking.
Kim is temporarily detained at the NBI-OTCD office for investigation and will be turned over to the custody of BI-FSU.
South Koreans topped the list of foreign fugitives arrested in the country in 2023 and 2024 with 39 and 74, respectively.
