A 40-year-old Korean with an active Interpol Red Notice was flagged down by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Police Aviation Intelligence Group while attempting to board a domestic flight at the Ninoy Airport (NAIA) terminal 3 last June 25.
A system check revealed the individual was wanted by South Korean authorities for fraud, in violation of Article 47 (2) and Article 26 (1) of the National Sports Promotion Act.
The operation was initiated based on intelligence provided by the PNP Intelligence Group, which coordinated closely with the PNP Aviation Security Group and the Bureau of Immigration.
After identifying the suspect at the departure gate, authorities conducted the arrest, ensuring proper legal procedures. The suspect was informed of the charges and his constitutional rights in a language he understood, with the entire process documented using an alternative recording device (ARD).
The accused is now under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration for documentation and proper disposition.
“Airports are not safe havens for fugitives. This operation reflects the strong coordination between the PNP Intelligence Group, Aviation Security Group, and our partner agencies in ensuring fugitives are held accountable. We remain committed to safeguarding our borders and upholding international justice,” said Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy, acting director of the PNP Aviation Security Group.
