THE Diocese of Kalookan is strongly urging the poor in need of assistance to avail of the legal aid the diocese is offering through volunteer lawyers and paralegals.
Speaking during the official launch of the Access to Justice Ministry of the Diocese last Sunday, Kalookan Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David invited the poor to avail of legal assistance if they have no financial means.
“We here in the Diocese of Kalookan have taken the initiative to launch our Access to Justice Ministry,” said David.
“This is to ensure that even the most disadvantaged have an equal opportunity to be heard and defended when arrested or charged,” he added.
The launch of the ministry comes in the wake of the filing of charges against three Caloocan City policemen by Jayson dela Rosa, who was arrested for theft and charged with illegal gambling.
The policemen arrested him for theft, but he was charged with illegal gambling only three days later.
To make the legal aid services more accessible, the Ministry has launched the hotline via the Messenger app.
A social media post provided a step-by-step guide on how to get legal help from the Access to Justice Ministry.
