THE Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has opened the application for the soon-to-be-vacant Office of the Ombudsman as incumbent Samuel Martirez prepares to retire on July 27.

The JBC said interested candidates should visit its official website at www.jbc.judiciary.gov.ph for detailed guidelines and application requirements.

It added that applications must be submitted through its Online Registration and Application System (O.R.A.S), which is accessible through the Philippine Judiciary Platform at www.portal.judiciary.gov.ph.

Applicants must “formally submit the online application for the abovementioned vacancy not later than the deadline at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4,” the JBC said.

“Applicants are reminded that the date of submission of the formal online applications via the JBC O.R.A.S shall be deemed as the date of filing of applications,” it added.

Applicants who may opt to send hard copies of their documents through registered mail or private courier must ensure that they arrive on time and email a copy of the mailing receipt for confirmation to oafs.jbc.judiciary.gov.ph on the day of dispatch.

Martirez was appointed Ombudsman in August 2018 by then-President Rodrigo Duterte, six months before his compulsory retirement from the Supreme Court as associate justice.

Martirez had to ask the High Court’s approval for early retirement so he could assume the post as chief graft buster.

The JBC is mandated by the 1987 Constitution to vet and screen nominees and applicants to the Judiciary and the offices of the Ombudsman and Deputy Ombudsman.
