A JAPANESE wanted by Tokyo for theft and fraud was arrested inside the Bureau of Immigration Taguig extension office while trying to extend his tourist visa.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Kudo Tomoya, 31, was apprehended last November 15 at the BI’s office at the SM Aura mall in Taguig City.

Immigration records showed Kudo arrived last October 15 and wanted to extend his stay in the country.

Viado said upon verification in the agency’s centralized system, it was established that the Japanese national was on the BI watchlist after being charged as an undesirable alien.

“The BI received official communication from Japanese authorities on November 8 informing (us) of Kudo’s standing warrant of arrest,” Viado said, adding the warrant was issued by the Tokyo Summary Court last August for charges of breaking into a structure, and theft and fraud in violation of the Japanese Penal Code.

Kudo allegedly broke into his former office and stole a bankbook and another office item valued at 2,000 Japanese yen.

Viado said Kudo reportedly posed as an employee of his former office and swindled a bank employee of 876,000 Japanese yen using the bankbook.

Kudo is detained at the BI facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa pending his deportation to Tokyo.
