A Japanese wanted for theft by Tokyo was apprehended in Pampanga by operatives from the Bureau of Immigration’s fugitive search unit.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the Japanese as Tsukita Yuhei, 28, who was arrested last Monday on Fields Avenue in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City.

Viado said FSU operatives arrested Yuhei on the strength of a mission order he issued on the request of the Japanese government which reported the presence of the fugitive in the country.

“We are deporting him for being an undesirable alien and his name will be included in our blacklist which would ban him from re-entering the country,” the BI chief added.

BI-FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said a warrant for Yuhei’s arrest was issued by a Tokyo summary court in October 2022 after he was charged with theft in violation of Article 235 of Japan’s penal code.

Japanese authorities alleged that Yuhei and his accomplice stole over eight ATM cards by impersonating law enforcers to deceive their victims into surrendering their cards under the pretext of police investigation.

Over 724,000 yen worth of cash, or more than US$4,600, were allegedly stolen by the suspects through unauthorized withdrawals from the stolen cards.

However, Yuhei managed to flee Tokyo and hid in the Philippines after arriving in Manila per Bi records last March 16, 2019.

“Since his arrival, he never left the country,” Sy said, adding that Yuhei has overstayed in the country.

Yuhei is detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City where he will remain while undergoing deportation proceedings.
