GOVERNMENT agents arrested a Japanese and his Filipina cohort who were trying to sneak out of the country 13 Filipinos who were promised bogus jobs in Japan, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced yesterday.

Reports reaching DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac identified the suspects as Tomita Takayuki and Maria Zenaida Callos Otani, who are now facing qualified trafficking in persons and large-scale illegal recruitment cases.

They were arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 last Friday night.

Investigations showed Takayuki and Otani recruited Filipinos to work in Japan with a monthly salary of 120,000 yen or around P45,000 through Winkbayside Manpower Services, which was later found to be bogus.

Once in Japan, the unsuspecting Filipinos were forced to work in other factories using fake identities, instead of working directly with Japanese companies. They also learned that their salaries could have reached 200,000 yen or around P75,000.

Acting on information provided by Filipinos who were earlier victimized by the two, agents of the DMW and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Task Force Against Trafficking conducted the operation against the suspects and arrested them in NAIA Terminal 3 last Friday.

The DMW urged past victims to come forward and coordinate with the department so additional charges can be filed against the suspects.
