“JACINTO” exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) yesterday afternoon, nine hours after it developed into a tropical depression.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the former low pressure area off Zambales developed into a tropical depression at 8 a.m. yesterday.

Jacinto is the country’s 10th tropical cyclone for this year and fifth for this month.

PAGASA said Jacinto exited at around 5 p.m. An hour earlier, Jacinto was some 470 km west of Iba, Zambales. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It was moving north northwestward at 10 kph.

PAGASA said Jacinto was heading towards northern or central Vietnam, where it is likely to make landfall on Saturday afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said the southwest monsoon, which was slightly enhanced by Jacinto, will bring “strong to gale-force gusts” to Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, and Camiguin until today. This condition will also be felt in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Lubang Island, Romblon, and Palawan on Saturday.
