INDEX crimes in Metro Manila decreased by 37.06 percent last month compared to the same period last year, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported yesterday.

In a statement, the NCRPO attributed the feat to the “effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations, heightened police presence, and strengthened collaboration with communities.”

The NCRPO said the crime volume in February was pegged at 343, down from 545 cases for the same month last year.

Index crimes are those against persons and property — murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles and carnapping of motorcycles.

“Among the most notable reductions, murder cases dropped by 41.94%, from 31 to 18, while homicide declined by 25%, from 12 to 9 cases,” the NCRPO said.

“Reports of physical injuries and rape cases both saw nearly 50% decreases, with physical injuries dropping from 57 to 29 cases (-49.12%) and rape cases falling from 91 to 46 cases (-49.45%),” it added.

The NCRPO said robbery cases also declined by 33.73 %, from 83 to 55, and theft cases fell by 33.62%, from 229 to 152.

Carnapping of motor vehicles dropped by 57.14%, from 7 to 3 cases, and carnapping of motorcycles decreased by 11.43%, from 35 to 31 cases.

CRIME SOLUTION

“Additionally, crime solution efficiency rose by 8.68 percentage points, from 67.71% in February 2024 to 76.38% in February 2025, reinforcing the NCRPO’s commitment to swift case resolution and ensuring justice,” the regional police office added.

It said it remains vigilant in addressing potential crimes in the metropolis.

NCRPO Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin acknowledged that “some may not immediately feel the impact of these improvements, but the numbers speak for themselves.”

He said the decline in crimes was a result of strengthened police visibility, intelligence-driven operations, and deepened community engagement.

“While challenges remain, the NCRPO remains committed to ensuring that every resident not only sees these improvements in data but also experiences them in their daily lives,” he added.

Aberin also commended NCRPO personnel for their dedication and perseverance in maintaining peace and order in Metro Manila, as he promised even more improvement.

“Our goal is not only to reduce the occurrence of crimes, but more importantly to give the community the feeling of safety and security,” said Aberin.
