FIVE overstaying foreigners were arrested recently by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in separate operations in Pangasinan and Ifugao.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the bureau’s intelligence unit, in coordination with the PNP, carried out the operations.

First to be arrested was a 34-year-old Nigerian man who was taken into custody last April 28 in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Viado said the Nigerian was undocumented and in possession of an expired passport when arrested.

Immigration personnel restricted the Nigerian as he became violent and head-butted two of the arresting officers taking him to the BI detention facility.

On the same day, four Chinese were taken into custody in Lagawa, Ifugao.

Viado said a Chinese was arrested at the Ibulao Hydro Power Plant for overstaying and working without a permit.

The man was accompanied by two other Chinese men who also failed to present valid passports or immigration documents.
