A HELICOPTER crashed in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, killing the aircraft’s female pilot who was the only person on board, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said yesterday.

The agency said it is conducting a thorough investigation.

“The lone occupant, a female pilot, did not survive the incident,” CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said.

He added that initial reports showed the chopper operated by Lion Air Incorporated left Manila at 10:22 a.m. on February 1, 2025 en route to Baguio City, where it dropped off a passenger. It took off from Baguio at 11:51 a.m., landing in Binalonan, Pangasinan at 12:05 p.m. for refueling.

“Binalonan airport officials noted that the aircraft experienced difficulty restarting its engine before departing at 4:30 p.m.,” Apolonio said, adding that the Philippine Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (PARCC) detected six emergency locator transmitter (ELT) alerts between 7:04 p.m. and 7:14 p.m.

Authorities later confirmed with the Guimba Police Station that the crash site was located in Purok Arimungmong, Barangay San Miguel.

Investigators from CAAP’s Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIIB) are on-site to determine the circumstances leading to the crash, Apolonio said.
