THREE members of a gunrunning syndicate were arrested recently in Danao City, Davao del Sur, police reported yesterday.
Central Visayas Police Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said a former elected government official managed to escape and is currently the subject of a manhunt operation.
The suspects, who were not identified, were arrested last Friday in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Suba, Danao City.
Police said the suspects’ cohort, a former elected official of Danao City, escaped and is “currently on the run,” adding that “a manhunt is underway to apprehend him.”
The Central Visayas police said the suspects are members of a gunrunning syndicate behind the sale of loose firearms to criminal groups operating in Central Visayas and other parts of the country.
“Authorities have been closely monitoring their activities due to the threat they pose to public safety and security,” it said in a statement.
Seized during the operation were three caliber 45 pistols with six magazines, an unassembled KG9 machine pistol with two magazines; and a 9mm pistol.
