OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested an alleged gunrunner in the act of selling 10 loose firearms, including a submachine gun, in Davao del Sur last Monday.
The suspect, identified as alias Hassan, has supplied loose firearms to unnamed politicians in Mindanao, the CIDG said in a statement.
Hassan was nabbed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Zone 3, Digos town in Davao del Sur “while trading/selling” a 9 mm submachine gun and nine 9mm revolvers.
The CIDG said Hassan, a resident of Barangay Linuk, Madalum town in Lanao del Sur, “is an alleged gunrunner who trades and deals in loose firearms from Lanao del Sur to alleged politician clients all over Mindanao.”
“We have seized 10 loose firearms, including a sub-machine gun, all at once, and arrested the alleged gunrunner,” CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said.
“Therefore, we significantly prevented the use and utilization of these firearms for the killings and crimes in Mindanao. This is remarkable,” said Torre while commending the CIDG men involved in the successful operation.
“Rest assured that the CIDG is unrelenting and unyielding in its fight against loose firearms and gunrunning and gun-for-hire activities nationwide. The CIDG is dauntless, the CIDG means business,” said Torre.
