OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a gunrunner believed to be behind the trading of loose firearms in Batangas and nearby areas.
The suspect, identified only as alias Zandy, was nabbed last Friday in a buy-bust operation at a gas station along Maharlika Highway, Barangay San Bartolome in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.
Seized from him were two caliber 5.56 rifles, a caliber .22 rifle, magazines, and assorted rounds of ammunition, the CIDG said in a statement.
“The arrested suspect is allegedly involved in illegal trading of firearms and gunrunning activities in Batangas and nearby provinces,” the CIDG said.
Follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend a cohort of Zandy who managed to escape.
CIDG director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said the operation was conducted after receiving information about the gunrunning activities of Zandy and his cohort.
Abrahano commended personnel of the CIDG Batangas Provincial Field Unit for their “very swift and responsive operation that led to the successful arrest of this alleged gunrunner and the seizure of three loose firearms.”
“With the confiscation of these firearms, we removed from circulation these instruments of killing, thereby significantly preventing crimes in the society,” said Abrahano.
