VICE President Sara Duterte has one prayer as she joined Catholics in the observance of the Holy Week, and that is for God to “save the Philippines.”
“Manalig tayo. Magkaisa tayo. Malalampasan natin ang dilim. (Let’s have faith. Let’s unite. We’ll get through the darkness). God save the Philippines,” she said in a statement,
Duterte urged Filipinos to use their time to pray and reflect amid hardships and challenges that the country is facing, saying the Lenten Season is a time for “healing.”
“While the nation goes through tremendous trials and the division gets deeper, Lent is an invitation for a time for healing, conversion, and looking back at what we Filipinos value: care, faith, and unity,” she said in Filipino.
She urged the Filipino faithful to follow Jesus.
“Let’s emulate Jesus’ love for us — teach it, spread it, and use it to help and strengthen communities that have faith and serve the people. Let’s have faith, Let’s unite,” she said.
The Vice President said Christ’s sacrifice on the cross should enlighten his followers and strengthen their faith during times “when we are weak, losing hope, facing difficulties, anger and intentions against our brothers and sisters.”
