FORMER president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last Monday night asked the public for prayers as her husband, Jose Miguel “Mike,” is set to undergo a heart surgery in Singapore while their son, Juan Miguel or “Mikey,” is battling stage one thyroid cancer.
“This has been a difficult time for the family,” Arroyo said in a statement posted on her Facebook account. “I have been spending much time with my constituents in Pampanga because I will be leaving soon for Singapore for Mike’s surgery. Please pray for my family.”
The former president said her husband will have to undergo surgery on April 7 because his “dissecting aortic aneurysm that required an emergency repair in 2007 is expanding again.
“He will have to undergo a big surgery, combining a bypass and an aortoplasty, to avert another emergency,” she said.
The Pampanga lawmaker also disclosed that Mikey’s biopsy “revealed stage one cancer of the thyroid gland, for which he underwent surgery last March 18, thankfully, a successful one.”
The former president said Paowee Tantoco, the husband of her niece Dina, who spent the first four years of her life in the Arroyo home, has passed away.
