A fire broke out at the Maharlika Livelihood Complex, a commercial establishment under the administration of the local government of Baguio City, last Saturday night.
Citing information from Supt. Mark Anthony Dangatan, the city’s fire marshal, the Baguio City public information office said the fire broke out at 9 p.m.
Responding firefighters put out the fire at 5:04 a.m. yesterday.
“The fire razed the basement of the Maharlika Livelihood Complex with a floor area of 1,500 square meters,” it said.
Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong, who supervised the suppression of the fire, commended Dangatan and his men for a job well done.
“You and your teams did a great and incredible job risking their lives to perform their duty,” said Magalong.
“You make this city and its people feel safe knowing that you are always quick to respond whenever we have fires. Keep up the good work,” Magalong added.
The Baguio City government took over the administration of the complex last May.
It used to be under the supervision of the Human Settlements Development Corporation, a corporation under the Department of Agriculture.
The complex opened in 1982 under the Ministry of Human Settlements, headed by former First Lady Imelda Marcos as the agency’s minister.
