THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday said two unregistered food products — “Sulu Hipon Alamang” and “Phildave Special Alamang Ginisa” have been
found containing a synthetic dye which is deemed as cancerous.
“The analyses of the FDA laboratory showed that the abovementioned products with corresponding expiry dates have shown presence of a non-permissible food color, Rhodamine B,” the FDA said in an advisory.
Among possible effects of exposure to Rhodamine B are infections of the eye, skin, and gastrointestinal and respiratory tract.
“Consumers are advised to consult a healthcare professional in case you experience any of the side effects upon consumption of the said food products,” the FDA said.
The agency also said the two products have no certificate of product registration. “The FDA warns the general public not to purchase and consume the unregistered food products,” it added.
