Families affected by monsoon given P3.9M in aid: DSWS

ABOUT P3.9 million worth of food and non-food relief items have been distributed to 15,447 families or 56,184 persons in six regions affected by incessant rains and flooding brought about by the southwest monsoon, data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) showed.

As of 6 a.m. yesterday, those affected by the heavy rains and flashfloods were from 82 barangays in Regions III (Central Luzon), VI (Western Visayas), IX (Zamboanga Peninsula), XI (Davao), XII (Soccsksargen), and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), monitoring by the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) division showed.

Of the distributed items, some P1.729 million worth of family food packs (FFPs) and non-food items such as hygiene, sleeping and cooking kits came from the DSWD while about P2.189 million came from local government units (LGUs).

There were 2,003 families or 7,468 persons who were displaced, mostly in Regions III, VI, IX, and XI. Of the displaced, about 1,060 families (3,559 persons) are taking shelter in 23 evacuation centers in Region III, VI, and IX while 943 families (3,909 persons) are staying with their relatives or friends.

The DSWD said the agency has over P2.96 billion worth of funds (P99.5 million) and stockpiles of food and other relief items (P2.86 billion) on standby.
