POLICE operatives have arrested two alleged gunrunners in Malabon City, including the former singer of a rap group.

The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) named the suspects as alias Rovi/Slick One; and Mark, who are said to be members of the newly-formed Laguna Criminal Group.

The crime group, the CIDG said, is involved in gunrunning activities in the Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela) area.

Rovi is a former singer, rapper and composer of the local singing group Breezy Boys, the CIDG said.

“Allegedly, he is now a Lalamove delivery driver, who utilizes the job in his gunrunning activities. Mark, his cohort, on the hand, is a sticker signage installer,” the CIDG said.

The suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation at Paradise Village, Barangay Tonsuya in Malabon City last Friday.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the successful operation prevented the use of the seized firearm in possible crimes.

“Let’s also investigate further the modus operandi of these Lalamove delivery drivers,” said Torre.

Torre said some Lalamove drivers “are taking advantage of their delivery job” in pursuing illegal activities.

“It has opened a big opportunity for crime, it’s alarming and must be stopped immediately,” said Torre.

“Rest assured that your CIDG is relentless in its fight against loose firearms, individual criminals and crime groups, and we will go deeper on our probe and operations against this emerging modus operandi. The CIDG is dauntless, the CIDG means business,” added Torre.
