Ex-QC cop arrested for sedition

A FORMER Quezon City policeman was arrested on Monday afternoon on charges of inciting to sedition, PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III said yesterday.

Torre said the arrest of Patrolman Francis Steve Fontillas was based on a warrant of arrest issued by Quezon City judge Zita Marie Atienza-Fajardo for inciting to sedition.

A P36,000 bail was set for Fontillas’ temporary liberty.

A police report said Fontillas was nabbed by Quezon City Police District operatives at around 4 p.m. along Pacamara Extension in Barangay Commonwealth.

In March, the QCPD filed inciting to sedition charges against Fontillas after saying on Facebook that he is not going to obey orders from President Marcos Jr. following the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Fontillas made the social media post a week after Duterte was apprehended by virtue of a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. He said Duterte is innocent.

The National Police Commission dismissed Fontillas from the service last month after he was found guilty of grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and disloyalty to the government.

Torre said Fontillas “is just a very, very small exception, an aberration to the organization.”

“We have 220,000 people (in the PNP). He’s the only one who did that,” he said.

“I don’t think that he has any following in the PNP so there is no need to warn or whatever or remind our personnel. We all know that the PNP is professional,” Torre said.
