FORMER Sen. Panfilo Lacson yesterday said he is praying for the recovery of the husband and son of former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Lacson said he has forgiven the former president for their past political conflict, adding: “Let bygones be bygones.”
Lacson, who is eyeing a Senate return under the administration’s Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate, said he has long forgiven Mrs. Arroyo and former first gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo for what they did to him since he first became a senator in 2001.
“I’m a very forgiving person. All of those who harassed me, I have forgiven them, because that is what my parents taught me,” he told a radio interview, reacting to the former president’s request for prayers as her husband was set to undergo heart surgery and their son Juan Miguel or “Mikey” is battling stage one thyroid cancer.
Lacson said he also prayed for the recovery of the then-firsts gentleman when the latter had to undergo a medical procedure.
“What more now, when so much time has passed?” Lacson said. “I may be forgiving but I always remember the act. Still, we must forgive and not hate the person; it is also better if you live without the burden of hating.”
Rep. Arroyo earlier said her husband will have to undergo surgery in Singapore on April 7 because his “dissecting aortic aneurysm that required an emergency repair in 2007 is expanding again.
The Pampanga lawmaker also disclosed that Mikey’s biopsy “revealed stage one cancer of the thyroid gland, for which he underwent surgery last March 18, thankfully, a successful one.”
