SENATE President Francis Escudero yesterday said Filipinos can show gratitude to the country’s heroes by becoming modern-day heroes themselves.
He said it is only fitting for Filipinos to remember the nation’s heroes who gave up their lives to fight for the country’s freedom and pride as the nation commemorates Araw ng Kagitingan.
“Sa paggunita ng Araw ng Kagitingan, ating naaalala ang mga aral ng kasaysayan – na ang Kalayaan ay hindi madaling nakamtan at ito’y pinagbabayaran ng pawis, dugo, at buhay. Hinihikayat tayo ng araw na ito na patuloy na magsikap para sa bansa at ipakita ang ating tapang at malasakit sa mga hamon ng makabagong panahon (We remember the lessons of history as we celebrate Araw ng Kagitingan – that freedom is not easily achieved but we pay for it through sweat, blood, and life. This day encourages us to continue striving for our country by showing courage and compassion on the new challenges we face these times),” he said.
He said Filipinos can be heroes themselves by doing at least small good deeds for the country.
“Panatilihin nating buhay sa ating puso’t isipan ang diwa ng kagitingan (Keep the spirit of heroism in our hearts and minds),” he added.
