Erwin Tulfo, Bong Go share top spot in SWS’ May survey

FORMER Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo and reelectionist Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go continued to top the people’s choice for senator in the midterm elections that would be held on Monday, a survey done by the Social Weather Station from May 2 to 6 showed.

The survey, which involved 1,800 registered voters nationwide and had an error margin of ±2.31 percent was commissioned by the Stratbase Group and released yesterday.

The results showed that of the 66 senatorial candidates running in this year’s elections, Tulfo will lead the list of 12 possible winners, with a 45 percent voter preference (up from 43 percent in April), followed by Go who slid to the second spot with 43 percent (from 45 percent).

They are followed by former Senate president Vicente “Tito” Sotto III with 37 percent (from 33 percent),

Sen. Lito Lapid and independent candidate Ben Tulfo with 34 percent each (from 33 percent and 34 percent, respectively), former senator Panfilo Lacson with 32 percent (up from 26 percent), and Makati City Mayor Abby Binay and Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa with 31 percent each (up from 29 percent and down from 32 percent, respectively).

Also in the top 12 are: Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar and Sen. Pia Cayetano with 30 percent each (up from 28 percent and down from 33 percent, respectively), and Senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Imee Marcos with 29 percent each (down from 31 percent and up from 24 percent, respectively).

Trailing behind are former senator Manny Pacquiao, television host Willie Revillame, and former Interior secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., with 24 percent each; former senator Paolo Benigo “Bam” Aquino with 23 percent and former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, with 21 percent.
