UNLIKE in its first three editions, the special job fair for displaced Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO) workers set today, Tuesday, and tomorrow will offer “high-end” positions, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In a radio interview, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma yesterday said the 4th special POGO job fair set at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City will not only offer “entry-level” jobs.
“In our previous (special) job fairs, mostly offered were entry-level jobs. In this job fair, there will be several high-end employment opportunities,” said Laguesma, citing in particular jobs in the field of information and technology (IT).
“Majority of the POGO workers are highly skilled in the IT industry,” said Laguesma.
The special POGO job fair will have 5,000 job vacancies to be offered by 126 local employers and 6 overseas companies from Metro Manila.
Laguesma said the numbers may still increase.
“I am confident that there will be more (jobs offered),” said Laguesma.
Among the jobs to be offered are those in finance, shipping and logistics, food and beverage, retail, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), among others.
Since the ban on POGO was announced, the DOLE has already conducted three special job fairs in response to the directive of President Jr. for the agency to assist displaced workers in finding new jobs.
