THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday said it will open the Government Internship Program (GIP) to Junior High School students to give them work experience and enhance their chances of being employed.
In a televised public briefing, Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) Director Patrick Patriwirawan said Junior High School students are now eligible to apply for the GIP.
“We have expanded the implementation of the beneficiaries to cover even junior high schools, which we previously didn’t include,” said Patriwirawan.
“They can now be included in the implementation of the Government Internship Program,” he added.
In addition, Patriwirawan said they have also prolonged the program to 12 months.
“We have extended the implementation for our beneficiaries for up to one year,” he said.
He said they are strongly urging all eligible individuals to apply for the GIP as soon as possible.
“We encourage the youth to visit the Public Employment Service Offices in your respective municipalities, cities, and provinces for information about our youth employment programs,” said Patriwirawan.
GIP aims to provide employment opportunities and engage young workers to serve the general public through government agency projects and programs at national and local levels.
