IN the wake of the deadly explosion in a firearms factory in Marikina City, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has ordered the temporary stoppage of work in the facility of Armscor Global Defense Inc. (AGDI).

In a phone interview, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said the DOLE – National Capital Region (NCR) has issued a Work Stoppage Order (WSO).

“The DOLE Regional Director (Sarah Mirasol) already issued a WSO affecting the Rimfire Department of the company,” said Laguesma.

He said the move seeks to ensure the safety of the 90 workers while an investigation is being conducted.

“DOLE wants to make sure the said workers are safe,” said Laguesma.

Asked if they already have initial findings on the workplace, the labor chief said the investigation is still ongoing.

“I have not received any conclusive findings yet and I don’t want to speculate or pre-empt the results of their investigation,” said Laguesma.

He assured that the workers affected by the WSO will be provided with the necessary assistance.

“(And) surely the company will see to it that the affected workers will be taken care of,” added Laguesma.

Last Monday, two employees died while another one was injured after an explosion rocked the factory.
