JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla yesterday said authorities are now zeroing in on the mastermind and motive behind the kidnap-slay of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que and his driver, whose bodies were dumped in Rodriguez, Rizal last month.

Remulla said the public might be in for a surprise regarding the mastermind and motive of the abduction and subsequent murders of Que and his driver, but declined to provide additional details.

“Na-nakuha na natin ang direct participants. Pero inaayos lang ‘yung mastermind tsaka motive (We have gotten the participants. We’re just looking at the mastermind and motive). That’s one thing that we’re trying to determine right now,” Remulla told reporters in an ambush interview.

Asked how close the authorities are in the investigation to disclose the mastermind and motive, Remulla said it will be done in a month’s time.

“Give us around 20-25 days. We’ll be done. It might pull off a surprise. Baka kagulat-gulat ang lumabas (What may come out may surprise you),” he added.

Asked to elaborate, Remulla declined anew.

Last Monday, the Task Force on Anti-Kidnapping of the National Prosecution Service led by Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Herbert Calvin Abugan recommended that Chinese businessman David Tan Liao, alias Michael Agad Young/Xiao Chang Jiang, and Filipinos Richard Austria, alias Richard Tan Garcia, and Reymart Catequista Loria undergo inquest proceedings for kidnapping for ransom with homicide in connection with the case.

The task force also recommended to Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon the conduct of a preliminary investigation against six Chinese, namely, Rongxian Gou alias Alvin Que, Yang Haohua, Yuan Fangquiang, Ye Jin Yuan, one alias Jonin Lin and one alias Kelly, a female Chinese.

The Que’s family lawyer, Arleen Tagaban, earlier said that while they are satisfied with the investigation, they want the authorities to dig deeper, especially after one of the respondents she did not identify implicated another individual in the case.
